Translating Near-Synonyms in the Quran: A Semantic Analysis of Three Near-Synonyms and their English Translations

This paper aims to explore how translators translate both the connotative and denotative meanings of near-synonyms from Quran into English language. The article will shed light on phenomenon near-synonymy, as well its translator’s background could have influenced their translation. There has been a dearth attention translation in Quran; accordingly, this study examines three pairs particular translations following itself : 1) Koran Interpreted by Arberry; 2) Quran: A New Translation Abdel Haleem; 3) Sublime Bakhtiar. These were chosen due significant differences style translators’ backgrounds. analysis highlight difference meaning each pair distinguishing meanings. be followed an examination recognise whether accurately translated these given instances or lost some, even all, during process discuss if influence it. Based discussion examples, it is evident that all failed distinguish between capture accurate throughout Quran, leading semantic void.
